Toals Steel & Sons Cup Final, Christmas Morning 2014

Carrick Rangers beat H&W Welders in Steel and Sons final

Ten-man Carrick Rangers beat Harland and Wolff Welders 4-1 in the traditional Christmas morning Steel and Sons Cup final at Seaview.

Aaron Smyth vollyed home from inside the box on 17 minutes and Kyle Cherry nodded home from a Conor McCloskey cross six minutes before the break.

McCloskey fired into the right corner on 61, but Daniel Kelly received a second yellow card 15 minutes later.

Michael McLellan pulled one back but Ben Roy made it 4-1 late in the game.

After Smyth's opener, Gary Smyth's side came close to pulling one back but David Rainey hit the upright with a header and Daniel Kelly almost scored an own goal.

Cherry extended the advantage and McCloskey then cut inside the box, before finding the net with a soaring effort just after the hour mark.

Kelly was handed a second yellow for a foul on Rainey, then McLellan's volley from a Mark Magennis free-kick reduced the Welders' arrears.

Ben Roy robbed William Armstrong and ran unchallenged, before sliding past Michael Dougherty to complete a convincing victory for the East Antrim club.
